FT Weekend | The Durrells’ footsteps lead housebuyers to Corfu by Liz Rowlinson 09 March 2019

‘A taste of village life, surrounded by the locals, is what appealed to Saskia Bosch and Mark Hendriksen, an Anglo-Dutch couple who restored three half-ruined houses to run as a boutique guesthouse, The Merchant’s House.’

“The village ‘found’ us, such a gem needs the full support of the local authorities.”

Mark Hendriksen & Saskia Bosch, Owners

On a hillside of Pantokratoras, The Merchant’s House Boutique B&B is the realization of a bold idea that literally and figuratively changed the landscape of Old Perithia. This couple of Londoners invested, in 2009, on the wild beauty of the abandoned village, renovated a complex of stone houses dating back to the Venetian occupation, and created an exemplary guesthouse. Their interest and perseverance paid off; old and new proprietors follow their example by giving life to a remarkable settlement.
